Bien que je n'ai pas lu la série dont celle-ci est issue, le résumé avait de quoi attirer mon attention. Un univers que je découvre et pour une première rencontre c'est une très belle surprise.

Cependant, je dois tout même avouer que j'ai été quelque peu confuse par certains aspects de l'histoire. Du fait de ne pas avoir lu la série d'origine, j'ai eu cette étrange impression d'être passée à côté de quelque chose. Et par moment les tournures des évènements allaient tellement vite que j'ai eu un peu de mal à suivre le rythme. Mais mise à part cela, l'histoire en elle-même est plus qu'intéressante.

Avec une plume fluide, et addictive, Layla Reyne nous offre un captivant romantic suspens. Il me faut vous prévenir qu'une fois votre lecture commencée, il vous sera été impossible de vous arrêter. Dès les premières pages, l'auteure nous plonge littéralement au cœur de l'action. Tout au long de notre voyage et cela jusqu'à la fin, elle va aisément nous tenir en haleine, faire grimper notre tension jusqu'à leur paroxysme et nous prendre au dépourvu au moment où l'on s'y attend le moins. Et quand arrive la stupéfiante fin, on en redemande encore !

Que dire de nos protagonistes Nic & Cam ? Deux forts tempérament chauds comme la braise qui vous réservent bien des surprises ! L'un est procureur rongé par de sombres secrets du passé qui doit tout mettre en oeuvre pour stopper un casse, faire face aux malversations de son paternel et plus que tout gérer son attirance pour son partenaire. L'autre est un agent du FBI au lourd passif qui a pour devise " travailler dur et profiter à fond ! ". Mais il aura suffit d'une mission d'infiltration qui tourne mal, d'un témoin en danger et de ces sentiments troublants pour ce procureur pour tout soit sens dessus dessous...

"Turn around, baby," Cam whispered. He stepped back, only far enough for Nic to rotate, then pulled him close again. "We've been dancing around this for months," he said, walking them back toward the desk, Nic bumping up against it. "You want this as much as I do, if the two kisses we've shared are any sign. Unless I read them wrong?"

Chin down, Nic glided his hands up the outsides of Cam's arms and over his shoulders, leaving a trail of goose bumps in their wake. "You're not wrong."

It was a miracle Cam had held out this long. This close to what he'd desired for months, the wild part of him desperately wanted to break free, wanted to play rough and hard with Nic. "Then what's the problem?" he asked. "You came to my place the other night. You made that move."

"A lot can change in forty-eight hours," Nic said, angling his face away.

Cam didn't let him get away with it, trapping Nic's chin between this thumb and forefinger and righting his gaze. "The way you feel about me?"

"This is messy, Boston, for a number of reasons, the least of which is you could get killed tomorrow."

Nic's blue eyes swirled with a stormy mix of lust and hesitation, the former on the cusp of winning out. Cam just needed to push a little harder.
